Mar de plástico

Como es natural, tememos a los mares y océanos por los animales que son sus habitantes; medusas, tiburones, barracudas, rayas, etc

Pero he llegado a una conclusión; la naturaleza ya no es nuestro mayor enemigo.

Tal vez este año me he abierto los ojos, tal vez este año he estado nadando con más frecuencia en varias regiones, pero me he asustado.

Me he asustado por la cantidad de plástico en el mar. Para ser más específico en cuanto a lo que he visto con mis propios ojos; el mar Mediterráneo. Cada vez que he ido a nadar en este mar tan grande y hermoso, me he encontrado grandes cantidades de plástico. Y no sólo "plástico fresco", recientemente desechada. No, ahora estoy viendo partículas de plástico más y más frecuentemente degradadas. Las partículas de plástico que son más fáciles y más fácil de incorporar en la cadena alimentaria de los animales, incluido el nuestro.

Me entristece mucho, ver que estamos contaminando los océanos y los mares hasta un punto en el que estamos afectando a todas las formas de vida, e incluso poniendo a nosotros en peligro. Porque sinceramente, partículas químicas de los plástico no es lo querrás en tu cuerpo, ¿verdad?

Nos hemos educado en un mundo basado en el concepto de "usar y tirar". Hemos aprendido incorrectamente que, desde el comienzo de la era de plástico, se utiliza y, a continuación, se tira la basura sin cualquier preocupación por lo que pasara después con lo que tiramos. Creíamos que la naturaleza, y en este caso, el océano, era lo suficientemente grande como para amortiguar el impacto.

Nos equivocábamos. Lo que hacemos, lo que tiramos o no, tiene un efecto directo sobre los ecosistemas de todo el mundo. Incluso los plásticos que tú lanzas por la ventana del coche, que es enviado desde Europa a la India, que tiras al suelo, con el tiempo fluye hacia los océanos. Y allí se acumula, se degrada en pequeñas partículas, pero nunca desaparece completamente, envenenando para siempre a la vida.

Por lo tanto, te pido que pienses antes de hacer algo. Pensad antes de simplemente tirar basura en el suelo o de la ventana de tu coche. Educa a tus niños, y a los quien ya no son niños pero no obstante no tratan la naturaleza con respeto. Puede ser que pienses "la basura ya no es mi problema desde el momento en que está fuera de mi vista". Bueno, te equivocas. Es tú problema. Es tú responsabilidad. Tú comportamiento de comprar, usar y tirar es tú responsabilidad. Si no actuamos AHORA, un día la generación futura tendrá que pagar por tu descuido e ignorancia.

Por lo tanto, por favor, haz una cosa para ti mismo; Deja de tirar los plásticos a la naturaleza. Recíclalo, reutilízalo. Pero no dejes que entra en el flujo de la naturaleza, donde eventualmente contaminara a todas las formas de vida.

The plastic sea

We naturally fear the seas and oceans for the animals that are its habitants; jellyfish, sharks, barracudas, stingrays etc.

But I have come to a realization; nature is no longer our greatest enemy.

Maybe this year I have observed better, maybe this year I have been swimming more often in various regions, but I’m shocked.

I’m shocked by the quantity of plastic in the sea. To be more specific as to what I have seen with my own eyes; the Mediterranean Sea. Every single time I have gone swimming in this great beautiful sea, I have encountered great quantities of plastic. And not only “fresh plastic”, recently thrown away. No, I am now seeing more and more often degraded particles of plastic. Particles of plastic which are easier and easier incorporated in the food chain of animals, including ours.

It greatly saddens me, to see that we are contaminating the oceans and seas to a point where we are affecting every single life form, and even putting ourselves in danger. Because honestly, plastic chemical particles is not what you want in your system, right?.

We have grown up in a world based on the concept of “use and throw away”. We have learnt incorrectly that, since the beginning of the plastic era, you use it, and then throw it away with any further need of concern. We believed that the nature, and in this case, the ocean was great enough to buffer our impact.

We were mistaken. What we do, what we thrown away or not, has direct effect on the ecosystems worldwide. Even plastics that you throw out of the car window, that gets shipped from the USA to India, that you throw on the ground eventually flows towards the oceans. And there it accumulates, degrades into tiny particles, but never fully disappears, forever poisoning life.

Thus, I ask you; Think before you do something. Think before you simply throw rubbish on the ground in the park or out of your car. Teach your children, and those who are no longer children but still act disrespectfully towards the nature. You might think “oh, it’s not my problem anymore from the moment it’s out of my sight”. Well, you’re mistaken. It is your problem. It is your responsibility. Your behavior of buying, using and throwing away is your responsibility. Unless we act NOW, one day the future generation will have to pay for your carelessness and ignorance.

So please, do this one thing for yourself; Stop throwing plastics into the nature. Recycle it, reuse it. But don’t let it flow away into the nature, where it will eventually poison all life forms. 

Es demasiado tarde para ser pesimista

Hoy surgió el tema de conversación sobre que los actuales problemas ambientales, sociales y políticas son tan grandes e infinitos que desanima a la gente a hacer algo contra ello. Realmente parece así, que una vez has resulto un problema global, viene otro. A lo que hay que añadir las dificultades que surgen debido a las multinacionales y los gobiernos, que según muchos están interesados ​​principalmente en el dinero y el poder, y no en el bienestar de todos.

Debo admitir que a veces si que desanima mucho, este aventura de hacer un mundo mejor. Hay tantos obstáculos. Muchas personas prefieren permanecerse pasivos, otros ni siquiera hacen un esfuerzo por escucharte, y los que tienen el poder te aplastarán si cruzas la línea de sus "leyes".

Pero yo no puedo permanecerme sentado pasivamente y esperar a que alguien va a "salvar el mundo". No puedo. Porque no creo que sería capaz de morir en paz un día, sabiendo que no he hecho mi máximo esfuerzo para mejorar la vida de todos los seres vivos que me rodean. Así es como soy. Y espero que otros comparten este sentimiento conmigo, esa pasión por conseguir un mundo mejor para todos (no sólo para los que tienen poder y dinero).

La verdad es que, si te conformes con ser pasivo y no poner tu esfuerzo en hacer un mundo mejor, muchos alrededor de ti copiaran esta actitud pasiva. No debes creer en la ilusión de que "alguien /el gobierno va a solucionar las problemas". Porque no es así. El cambio viene de cada uno de los seres humanos. Viene de ti. Y si estas inspirado y lo suficiente apasionado, podrás despertar la conciencia de los demás, y es entonces cuando tu familia, tu comunidad, tu país se despertará y participará en el cambio.

Nadie en la historia humana alguna vez ha logrado cambiar algo con la pasividad, la ignorancia o el miedo. Y para ser honesto, no tenemos el lujo de permanecernos pasivos y dejar que las cosas se vayan aún más fuera de control. Piense en las próximas generaciones: ¿Quieres ser recordado como alguien que no hizo nada, o alguien que hizo algo bueno? ¿Quieres dejar atrás la hermosa herencia de nuestra planeta, o quieres que las próximas generaciones sufran y finalmente perecerán?

Tú eres el quien puede elegir. No te escondas más detrás de la falsa seguridad de "otras personas van a hacer el trabajo duro de cambiar el mundo". Tú, querido ser humano, tienes la oportunidad de elegir lo que es correcto. No sólo para ti, sino para todos.

Como última nota, voy a añadir, es demasiado tarde para ser pesimista. Porque precisamente eso es lo que te paralizara y te hace ser pasivo. Sé apasionado, y nunca dejes de intentar lo mejor posible.

It's too late to be a pessimist

Today the conversation topic came up about the fact that the present environmental, social and political problems are so great and endless that it discourages people to do something about it. It’s really does seem so, that once you solve one global problem, another one arises. To which you have to add the difficulties that arise due to the multinationals and the governments, which in eyes of many are mainly interested in money and power, not in the wellbeing of all.

I must admit, it is discouraging sometimes, trying to make a better world. There are so many obstacles. Many people prefer remaining passive, others don’t even make an effort to listen to your cause, and the ones with power will crush you if you cross the line of their “laws”.

But I cannot remain sitting passively and hoping someone else will “save the world”. I can’t. Because I don’t think I would be able to die in peace one day, knowing I have not done my very best to make life better for all living beings around me. That’s how I am. And I do hope that others share this feeling, this passion for a better world, for all (not just the ones with power and money).

The truth is, if you just sit still and don’t put your effort in making a better world, many around you will copy this passive attitude. You cannot believe the illusion of “someone else/the government will fix this”. No. The change comes from each and every human. It comes from you. And if you are inspired and passionate enough, you can and will awaken the awareness of others, and that’s when your family, your community, your country will awaken and participate in change.

No one has ever managed to change something with passivity, ignorance or fear. And to be honest; we cannot afford to remain passive and let things get further out of control. Think of the next generations: Do you want to be remembered as someone who did nothing, or someone who did something good? Do you want to leave behind the beautiful legacy of our planet, or do you want the next generations to suffer and eventually perish?

To you is the choice. Don’t hide no longer behind the false safety of “someone else will do the hard work of changing the world”. You, dear human being, have the chance to choose what is right. Not just for you, but for all.

As a last note, I will add; it’s too late to be a pessimist. Because exactly that it what will paralyze you into passivity. Be passionate, and never stop trying your very best.
